La Casa Don Miguel Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

  • David M.

I can't adequately describe how great the food at La Casa Don Miguel was! Having grown up and still living in Southern California (for 65 years) where Mexican restaurants abound, few compare with this family owned gem. My parents told me that the first restaurant I visited at the age of two ultimately became my favorite Mexican food restaurant and the one to which I compare all Mexican restaurants. La Casa Don Miguel is among the best I've frequented. If I didn't live 450 miles from Cedar City, La Casa Don Miguel would be my go to restaurant.

We were only in Cedar City for a couple nights so we hit the highest ranking spots on yelp, this place definitely does not deserve to be #2. The "host stand" was in the back of the room when we walked in, kinda awkward... One lady came and asked what we wanted to drink, no greeting but I guess she was just getting to the point... Another lady took our order and a third lady brought refills and helped as needed. The food was not good. The rice was very bland, the salsa had too much salt and the chips were extremely oily. I ordered the chile rilleno. It seemed to have boxed mash potatoes either in it or something. The sauce was a little sweet for my liking but It was covered in cheese which was the best thing one plate. Hubby ordered the chili Colorado and he didn't even finish, which happens almost as often as a women is elected president (haha). We had low expectations considering we are from So Cal and this place still wasn't good.

I sincerely cannot understand how multiple people from SoCal liked this place enough to give it 5 stars. Maybe they just weren't expecting to find Mexican food at all in such a predominantly Caucasian area? Maybe they'd only been eating Pringles & Slim Jims for the past few days on a road trip? Even then I wouldn't be able to rate this place any higher. I'm no stranger to good, authentic Mexican food, having eaten it in several different Mexican states, plus frequented places across California, New Mexico, and Texas. I've never met a type of regional Mexican cuisine I didn't like. I eat it all, whether from high-end spots or the humblest taco trucks. La Casa Don Miguel was not good. Here's a breakdown of what went into my rating. Chips & salsa - 3 Hard to really eff up, but some have done it. The version here is decent. One semi-boring, semi-spicy red tomato salsa and one semi-salty tomatillo. The latter was probably the best-tasting thing we had. Pollo a la crema - 2 Chicken, mushrooms & white onion sauteed in a slightly mealy cream sauce. Came with beans of your choice (I had black), which were decent, and Spanish rice, which was bland & dry. A tiny pile of shredded iceberg lettuce sat on the plate also. This wasn't the worst meal I've ever had, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Mini-combo beef taco - 1 First, this is a *hard-shelled* taco; the menu doesn't warn you. Again, maybe this is due to them being in a really white area. Still, you should warn someone before they accidentally order a deep-fried, hard-shelled taco from a supposedly authentic Mexican place. Inside the taco: shredded, shrunken dry meat that at one point might have been good; Kraft yellow shredded cheese; another few leaves of iceberg. Came with some decent refrieds and some rice. If we were at Jack in the Box getting tacos, well, ok then! At an actual Mexican restaurant, and for $7.49? Noooope. Service - 3 The people who work here were nice enough, but service was extremely slow. Maybe they were down a person and abnormally busy for Sunday lunch, though there were a couple open tables - who knows. Extra star for being open on a Sunday, though. Overall impression is that neither of us would likely be back again, unless maybe it was literally the only thing that was open. Maybe their burritos are better?

  • Joe G.

Don Miguel is a very interesting restaurant in my opinion it feels like you're eating in a living room bathrooms were very weird, staff was not friendly but not rude. Food is was okay priced and tasted like a normal burrito.

    (3)
  • Larry K.

This is the best Mexican food anywhere. Nice service also. We always eat here when passing through.

  • Julia M.

Loved the green salsa, chips, and the nopales burrito - which was filled with cactus, green bell peppers, and onions in with a tangy and pleasing zing. Bonus points for the fresh slices of tomato and avocado that came on top. My partner enjoyed her chicken mole enchiladas also, although to be fair it looked a little dry and we had been hiking all day, so probably anything would have tasted amazing. Service was friendly, but we were the only table so not a fair comparison to other reviewers.

  • Shauna S.

Can't believe I haven't checked in here or reviewed this place before since we've been eating here for years! They have expanded their menu, dressed up their tables, and added complimentary warm bean dip with their usual tasty salsa and fresh chips. They have nice original paintings, bright colored fabric curtains and decorations. Service has always been good since it is a family owned restaurant. Their cook is quick with meals so we know eating in a time crunch won't be a problem. I love their enchiladas (especially with mole sauce), chicken tortilla soup, and flan. Tasty rice and beans. My husband usually gets shredded beef tacos and tamales. Their fajitas look and smell delicious.

  • The Salt Project U.

One of our favorite Mexican places to eat. Try the supreme chimichanga. Or the chili releno. All delicious. Best salsa, red or green is super fresh. Also, the warm churros. It's been around for 12 years and family owned.

  • Eric B.

The service has never been good here. The food is mediocre at best. Liquor is served, so it'll do in a pinch I guess.

  • Christian K.

Amazing meal in an unexpected place. Loved the mole, and the refried beans were surprisingly more than just an afterthought. Service was very attentive, and the servers were genuinely nice. Definitely recommend.

  • Tom D.

Been here 3-4 times. Feel bad I haven't reviewed it until now. Fantastic homestyle cooking, a great selection, and a nice, casual cafe-style vibe. Recently, I brought good friends visiting from Oregon and Germany here after a long day at Bryce Canyon. They absolutely LOVED it...talked about it all the way home. Staff is friendly and courteous. This place would grab some SERIOUS market share from the Mex food restaurant business in (larger) St George if they opened up a second place there. But maybe they like staying small and not expanding. Too bad for us because they are 45 min. away from our home.

  • Aravinth B.

I had my expectation a bit low.. But I rele enjoyed the food. Especially the quantity they provide is more than adequate. The prices are very reasonable n totally worth the delicious filling food.

    (5)
  • Jan J.

I would call this just "regular" Mexican food. The staff is nice. They got the "hole in the wall" decor just right. I would say the salsa is very good and is the only exceptional part of my meal. I'm not from the area, so I don't know if there is anything better.

  • Elizabeth L.

Poor food and service was really slow. Seemed to pick up at the end, but it did not make up for the fact we waited thirty minutes for two appetizers and we never ordered an actual entree.

    (1)
  • Jenna K.

I was very disappointed in this place. The service was slow and they seemed to have run out of everything including rice. My entree was supposed to come with rice and my boyfriend ordered a burrito and they did not put rice in it which is basically the main component to a burrito. They did not even tell us that they ran out of rice and instead tried to hide it by putting more beans in it. When we told the waitress she didn't do anything and charged us the full amount for our food. I am hoping this was just an off day for this restaurant,

    (1)
  • David L.

High expectations from the yelp reviews. Total opposite. The food was subpar, the service was questionable( had no idea who are server was). We ordered taquitos and nachos and it took 45 minutes. Only saving grace were the tasty margaritas.

  • Thao T.

Admittedly, I went here because this was the only decent sounding restaurant in Cedar City opened on a Sunday night, but the food was fantastic! Portions are large and tasty, and the Taco Special is an enviable platter of three tacos, 1 enchilada, and all the fixings. The sides could be improved, but the tacos were worth every penny. There aren't not too many options around this area, but this one is highly recommended for hungry road trippers craving comforting food at a great value!

  • Trevor J.

The staff was very frinedly and the atmosphere was good, like eating in someone living room. The chips and salsa were delicious. The biggest issue i had was that we waited for a very very very long time to get out food. My wife got some grilled chicken tacos, which were nothing special, but did come with a roasted green chilli like litterally a whole green chili which was very tasty! probably the tastiest part of any of our meals. A friend got the Tacos de crema or something like that, it was like a chicken taco with a sour cream/mustardy sauce, and she said it was real good, but neither of us tried it, and i ordered the Carne Asada. My steak was pretty good though not cooked the way i asked for (med-rare) most places dont even ask how you want your carne asada, so i was impressed they did, but it came out very well done. It did have a decent taste but nothing special, and the biggest upside wa that all of the plates were very generous not just in size, but thay also included a lot of things that other places would charge extra for, like geuacamole, veggies, multiple salsas, and zanahorias en escabeche (the spicy pickled carrot veggie salsa stuff). The beans and rice were pretty good too, but again nothing special. Everything was ok in price for the sizes that you get, but not great. I would probably not eat here again, just because it wasnt anything special, and im sure there are better places in cedar city, it seems like there restaurant selection there is 45% pizza, 45% Mexica and 10% everything else, so im sure there are better ones.

Growing up in SoCal, I think I have a pretty good idea of what good Mexican food is. Surprise surprise when I find a place in Cedar City, Utah professing to be not only good Mexican food, but also Authentic, I had to try it. During a roadtrip that I was on that got side tracked, we landed in this small city (it was too big to be called a town). Searching for something to eat we actually turned around and drove clear across town to get here, and I'm glad I did. My partner and I decided on the Molcajete, on recommendation from Johnathan (turns out he's the son of the owners). This things was huge! more than enough for the two people it was said to serve. We got the chicken asada meat choices, but they had pork and shrimp also. The whole thing was served in a lava bowl with the standard green peppers and onions, but this place also threw in mushrooms and whole grilled chilies (the mushrooms was an interesting twist, but it totally worked). Additionally, they also serve some chips and salsa as you sit down. The red and green salsa that they serve are not hot at all for me, but you can ask for the hotter stuff which they will bring out. The bean dip is also very good! Johnathan, our server was great, but he's only here in the summer (he's going to school!)

  • Marc A.

The food was fine but it took RIDICULOUSLY long to get it. In addition the waitress told us it would take an additional 10 minutes to get chicken tenders for my 7-year-old son! It was evident that other people were waiting a long time as well. What a disappointment.

  • Jill W.

Excellent atmosphere. Food was flavorful, big portions for good price, and our waiter was very friendly. Will be back.

  • Shari W.

The outside and inside are charming. The staff was friendly, and attentive. We ended up picking this Mexican restaurant because they were one of the few with alcohol. The Margaritas were tangy, and enjoyable. The food was average. It was a little bland for our taste. I did have cactus for the first time. The restrooms are very clean too. You won't be disappointed, you just won't be wowed if you like more complex flavors.

We passed through on our way to South Dakota and decided to stop in on this place. As others have written this is authentic Mexican food and excellent quality to boot. lunch specials are good. As Southern Californians who have a good Mexican food restaurant in several cities this one stacks up well with those we have here locally. Nice clean restaurant with good service. Highly recommend.

This is my first and last visit to this restaurant. The restaurant was not that busy. We waited nearly one hour for our meals. I ordered the special, a beef chimichanga. I received a chicken burrito not deep fried. They offered to make a new meal but I declined due to the long wait we had already. My friend order menudo. It was overcooked. His tortillas were dry and hard. My other friend had chili colorado. The meat was tough and chewy. We complained and the bill was reduced to $20 with profuse apologies from the waitress. This is a family run restaurant. We had a young girl about age 10 helping the waitress with our drink order. I don't think young children should be working, family business or not.

They have their own unique spices and the portions are HUGE! I loved my fish tacos!!! We are just passing by and live in California. We have many MANY Mexican restaurants and this one by far is delicious!

    (5)
  • LaNora S.

When we walked in they were busy, we were seated within 5 minutes, drink order taken and chips and salsa on the table. After looking at the menu our order was taken all was going well and then 30 minutes, 45, 55 and no food, We were about to get up and leave and here she comes with our food almost an hour after we were seated. My husband said he wasn't even hungry anymore. I can say the food was good but not worth that wait, I just wonder if they only have one person working in the kitchen. This long wait will keep us away on our next trip.

  • Andy E.

Servers overworked and the margarita was so so at best. House recommended enchildas were excellent, but the house special was on the bland side.

Excellent Mexican food. The best we have eaten and we live in Phoenix. Driving from Montana back home on I15. Would not have found without Yelp. Food prep took awhile, but well worth the wait.

Taco special is delicious. Food and atmosphere were very authentic. Homemade salsas rivaled many restaurants in the Houston area.

Tasty! Awesome place for lunch break during trip. Very clean and lovely! All seats and desk are surrounded by paintings, you can find little Mexican handmade art works in everywhere. Especially the beef soup , superb flavorful !!!

Great Mexican food! We live in Southern California, and Don Miguel's food would fit right in and be spectacular even there! We had a late lunch, and lunch specials range from $6-$7.49, WITH rice and beans. Add in free bean dip and free chips and salsa, and we left knowing we would not be eating dinner. The enchiladas, chimichanga, and especially the refried beans were simply delicious. I would give it more than five stars if i could. Thank you for a great, memorable meal!

  • Randi E.

The food was really good. The desserts were priced well, and the flan was really good and creamy. BUT the service was awful. It took us about an hour and a half to eat our entrees and desserts. We ordered as soon as we were asked too. The only time we were checked up on was by a girl who was really under 13 years old. We waited 45 minutes for food and about the same amount of time for sopapillas which are chips with cinnamon sugar on them. It was also a Wednesday night. I'm pretty disappointed.

  • Jason C.

My wife and I love this place. Delicious food and they always bring out a bean dip separate from the salsa. (May have to ask) You can't go wrong with the carne asada burrito, cheese enchiladas, or deep fried ice cream!

Such a great restaurant! They are SO accommodating for my vegan needs and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive and go above and beyond for their guests. Carmen is adorable and sweet. We came here both days we were in town. Definitely support them! Family owned!

  • Tommy D.

Our Boy Scout van stopped in with 10 of us to grab a bit to eat and we were blown away by the great food and friendly service. This is a mom-n-pop establishment that carries their reputation on their food. We all had something different but I had standard menudo and chili relleno. Both were excellent. Their two salsa's were a great pairing to their fresh made chips. With all that good food, their stand out was the BEANS!! Too bad its a six hour drive from home....I will go back when I can.

First time and we were impressed. Very friendly service, fun atmosphere, and delicious food. Whether you enjoy Mexican food or not, you need to try this place.

Inexpensive and authentic Mexican food. Conveniently located on Hwy 15 on the way between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. Menu featured a lot of dishes but sadly they ran out of ingredients for quite a few. I like the chimichanga and ranchero that I had. Fixers like chips, salsa, beans were all excellent as well. Friendly service. Huge portions. You won't leave here hungry.

  • Amanda W.

Outstanding food and service provided by Bella from the Twighlight movies. I don't know the name of what (if it isn't a mechanical thing what is the point in remembering the name of it) but it was basically pork fajitas. Whatever seasoning they put on it was so good I almost regurgitated it so I could taste it again. Mighty delicious.

  • Trinity S.

Open Sundays !!! Horchata was amazing, chips and red and green salsa. Refried beans served with the chips. Wish the rice with my meal was better. Chicken enchilada was awesome ! Has red sauce and cheese on top of it. Sour cream on top as well. Big place- two rooms. Easy to find.

I've had a lot of really great Mexican food being from southern Cali, so I have high expectations. This place was delicious!!!! I wish we had one in SD. All the foods are jam packed with flavor. Yummmm. Does not disappoint! I feel like I'm at someone's house.

We stayed in Cedar City for a few nights and tried this place on our first night in town (which happened to be New Years Eve). We stopped due to the reviews on Yelp. The salsas were really good...when our food came it wasnt super hot, but okay. I had the taco salad and my husband had the combo plate with the chile relleno and a chile verde burrito. He said they were both good, but average. The beans were really good. Our kids had a hamburger and a quesadilla...they were happy with them. The staff was really friendly and I would have given it 4 stars, but it was 11 degrees outside and the temp inside was 53 degrees....even the staff was wearing jackets to keep warm. Stopping through we would stop again, but not some place i would take a detour to just to stop.

  • Naveen M.

Awesome service and awesome food. Highly recommend the Horchata. We reached the place half an hour before closing time, and they were happy to serve us and were polite throughout the dinner.

  • Mandi H.

Delicious Mexican food. Friendly staff and good service. They were very cautious of the hot plates and my children and even offered a yummy salsa with my fajitas that was scrumptious. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the area we sat in was freezing. We all ate with our coats on. The thermostat on the wall said 60 degrees. A little chilly since the weather outside was only 19 degrees. Overall a good experience and we will.eat here again on our travels.

Had lunch at the La Casa Don Miguel in Ceder City UT last week and it was pretty good. I had the lunch special which was a Chili Releno for 5.75. They started the meal off with a small 1/2 taco in some red sauce. As well as corn chips and salsa I liked the bean dip the best. The lunch had a releno that was tasty, rice, beans and a slaw type salad. It was quit filling. The place is clean and the service very good. I would recommend it to all who enjoy Mexican food,

I have been to Cedar City many times and have yet to find a good Mexican food place. We discovered this place which is on the main drag. It is in which looks to be an old house. We entered the front door and were seated immediately. The staff was very friendly. My Friend and I both ordered Margaritas and they were enormous! I ordered enchiladas with rice and beans. The enchiladas were folded instead of rolled. I had read the reviews on yelp and people were saying this place has authentic food so maybe they are supposed to be folded. Either way they were really good. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back when I visit the area next.

  • Joe M.

Chicken and beef burritos were good. Flavors were spot on. The horchata was refreshing and the waitress was hospitable and friendly. The Spanish music and the ambience made this place worth the detour before heading into Zion National park.

Loaded up with complimentary chippies & salsas!! Our waitresses really surprised us by bringing a bowl of refried beans to the table too - on tha house. Actually on the casa is what I should say cuz it's pretty authentic I think . Can't be sure cuz I've never been to Mexico but I sure did love the casa don Miguel special. The fam is friendly that makes up the staff in te restaurant. Not sure if they're actually related but they seem like really good people!!! Gotta check it out! Oh also you get huge portions for super cheap! I be back

Excellent. Rolled in here after nice afternoon bike ride went south with a freak thunderstorm and hail ball attack. Great food, come enjoy the rolled tacos.

Family run and low key but great food. Had the chicken and rice and they had a great mole sauce on top.

  • James B.

We came in after a grueling day in the oppressive 115 degree heat at Zion looking for some quick, tasty grub. We got tasty, but not so quick. First the bad, the service was outlandishly slow. It seemed like the place had no sort of organization to running tables. The waitresses (there were only two working) seemed to have their stuff together, but the kitchen it seemed was totally out of control. We were sitting across from the kitchen window, and noticed several instances where the waitresses were yelling at the kitchen staff. It got really bad, the whole meal took us over an hour for just entrees and water, which was pretty rough considering how hungry we were. When we got food though, it was really good. They start you with some refried beans, red salsa, and green salsa with some homemade chips. A great appetizer, we could have eaten these all night. The red salsa was pretty spicy, a strong fire left in your mouth that could only be quenched by some water, but the green one was very mild. Both entrees we got were also well-prepared. We got a chicken fajita that had a nice flavor beyond the typical "grilled" flavor you get at most places, and their special platter with three meats, all of which had a vibrant flavors that really stood out. It wasn't the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it was tasty. If there service was better, I'd love to go back, the prices were also very reasonable.

We found this little hole in the wall...very small but very good! We will go back every time we drive through Cedar City on the way to Duck Creek Village. Prices are definitely great and we all liked the food.

  • Scott B.

We've eaten at all the Mexican restaurants in town, we chose this place as our absolute favorite. Although we find the interior grungy at best, the food is spectacular and it is the closest to authentic as we could find.

    (5)
  • Tim H.

Service was excellent. Be careful with the margaritas, very sweet, not much alcohol due to Utah liquor laws. Homemade salsas were excellent, carnitas were special, and carne asada was flavorful, but, over cooked.

  • william c.

Maybe this place is 4 stars compared to the other Mexican joints in Cedar City, but I gotta say the food was mediocre at best. I ordered a chile relleno and enchilada combination. Everything was smothered in cheese. The chile relleno wasn't stuffed with Mexican cheese and the breading was non existent. Call me a traditionalist but that doesn't qualify as a chile relleno. None of the flavors stood out. We also ordered guacamole, which was totally oxidized and brown. They did replace it without us asking, but why serve something like that in the first place? Anyway, if you're in a pinch and are really craving Mexican, I guess this place would do. Just don't have 4 star expectations going in like we did.

  • Bob P.

Wow!! We are from Southern California and we know great Mexican food. This wonderful restaurant is not to be missed! The service is outstanding and friendly, the food is authentic and outstanding. The even have authentic and delicious Margaritas ( made with alcohol, even in Utah!! ). Don't let the unassuming entrance be a deterrent, you will have a great meal. Go and enjoy.

Stopped in while passing through town and was pleasantly surprised! Both me and my wife enjoyed our meals and kept aying as we were eating how good it was!. I am sure will definitely be going back next time we are in town. Authentic family run Mexican restaurant. very friendly staff.

Stopped here coming from Riverside Ca and were pretty skeptic trying Mexican food in Utah but decided to be spontaneous. When we got there it was a nice little house converted into a restaurant. We got a table right when we walked in and they got us our drinks and have us some yummy salsa. We liked the red one the best and then they brought out some yummy soup which was totally unexpected. It was a potato noodle soup which was delicious. We got our orders which were the chicken taquitos and my wife got the spinach enchiladas and both were fantastic! Plenty of beans and rice, big portions and friendly staff. If your looking for fast food then go to Taco Bell. If you want to catch a break from a long drive and want to get out of the car for 45 min then don't pass this spot up!

Service was fantastic. Drinks delicious. Food --- AWESOME. One of the BEST if not the best in Cedar City for Mexican food.

  • R Clark G.

I'm not really sure where those who claim this is the best Mexican food have eaten...all I can recall of our meal here was...CHEESE! Oh my cheese. Really, I've never had such a meal so thoroughly bathed in orange grease. My companion enjoyed their meal somewhat more than I enjoyed mine, but I really had to stop eating because I felt the cheesy oils lining my throat and stomach...and my arteries if I'm not mistaken. I really couldn't see past the bright yellow cheese. The aguas frescas weren't bad, and the salsa and chips were delicious. But beware the cheese. Service was acceptable and friendly enough. The layout of the restaurant seems to indicate it's a converted home. It's cozy, but walking there (it was summer) from SUU was a beast as it was around 5 or so and there was no shade along the streets so we were melting; the restaurant definitely provided some sweet cooling air. As for price, I've had cheaper and better, so I wouldn't recommend this place...however, Cedar City doesn't offer a lot, so, you know, take what you can get, I guess.

  • Ty F.

Meh. Seriously. Had lunch here and the food was so mediocre. Granted I'm originally from LA which has great Mexican food, but the food took forever and my plate was piping hot when I got it because it had been overcooked. You know when the cheese and beans start to bubble/boil? Yeah, overcooked and bland. This is a bummer because I was really hoping for a good meal since the reviews have been good. Service was friendly enough, it took a very long time to get our food, the chips and salsa were fresh and crisp and delicious (5 stars), but the cheapy lunch special itself was disappointing.

Food was ok. Service was great. I just didn't Like that the guacamole looked old. Brown color.

  • Brent B.

My wife and I live in Wisconsin and the Mexican food is horrendous. I travel to California for work a lot and this place stacks up. The chips and salsa (green and red) are both excellent. I had the enchilada and tamale combo which was great. My wife had the camarones con arroz and not only was it great, the amount of shrimp was ample.

    (5)
  • Alan W.

We had a great meal and an overall excellent experience. The shrimp chimichanga was delicious and my wife and daughter shared a chimichanga, enchillada, and flautas that they thought were authentic and excellent. Good service (we came on a Sunday night) and it's a nice, relaxing atmosphere on the patio out back.

  • Ugi M.

They have the best burrito soup and their bean dip is very good. I ordered their taco salad once and it was not good. Very soggy. Other than that, its one of our fav place to go.

  • Eric P.

This place is one of my favorite spots for Mexican food here in Cedar City. I'm originally from San Antonio, TX and love the Mexican food down there. I haven't had anything like it. Even Southern California Mexican food doesn't compare to Texas Mexican food. Anyways, this place is really good. The people are nice, its not close to Texas style but its still great. The workers sometimes bring complimentary food out which is really nice of them and good too. I haven't had an issue with the food here. It always comes out tasting perfect. I recommend this place if you like Mexican food.

  • Samuel W.

Service was kinda sloppy. They forgot several items we ordered. Chips are incredible though--might be the best I've had. The food was pretty good. I got the Colorado burrito. Burrito might be a misnomer. It wasn't like most burritos I've had; the rice and beans were not on the inside like I was expecting. Overall it was pretty good.

We are on vacation and craving Mexican food. Taco Bell wasn't on our list. We took a quick look on Yelp and came across La Casa Don Miguel. We are from Southern California. We know Mexican food. I must say we had a very nice dinner. Food was hot (heat) and fresh. I had the burrito supreme. Loaded with chicken, rice, beans topped with a tomato ranchero sauce, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. Two thumbs up. Hubby had chili relleno. He said it was very good. Kids got tacos. They said they were very good. Very happy with our choices. If we lived in the area, we would become regulars.

Chips and salsa was great. Food was slow to get to the table, but was tasty. I received steak instead of chicken, but was seasoned good. Not bad... Would go again.

Great food, but ghastly margaritas!!! The drink had no tequila, too much syrup and was obscenely tart. I had acid reflux for days!!!

We were from out of town in Southern California where WE KNOW good Mexican food. We yelped this restaurant and it had one of the highest ratings. We were not disappointed!! Food was excellent and so was the service.

This place is LEGIT . We were in town for the summer games and decided to give this place a try. Salsa- good, beer - check , patio- yup. Fajitas were possibly the best I have ever had. Do not pass this place by, the building needs work but the food is incredible . GP

Not even a block away from where we were staying it was a nice little walk there. After all the Yelp reviews we thought for sure while we visit Cedar we need to hit this place up. As we came through the door the first part was a small area of tables-most occupied. We just seated ourselves as there wasnt anyone to help us when we got there. Immediately we were served chips and salsa. I know after all the reviews I was expecting alot but it wasnt as fab as I had read. BF liked the green salsa, the red salsa was so-so and the bean dip was ok. The chips looked old and soaked up oil. Regardless we were hungry and we tore it up anyways. So yes after the review we had to try the tortilla soup. We got it to share and glad that we did-it was soooo big! Definitely will be back for that stuff. HOLY COW the BF hasnt stopped talking about it. ;) We also got the combo fajitas (steak and chicken). I thought they were OK....the meat was in little bitty pieces. The BF said he thought they were good and he liked the small pieces....so not sure how to review that. haha Dont forget the drinks. He ordered a taquila sunrise that he said was not good but then had a margarita and loved it. Me just a beer girl...they gave me a chilled glass...I likey. Over all it was good. The service was ok....young lady very friendly but the older lady taking our order a little on the "sour puss" note....but hey we are the tourists right? Hm. We will def be back the next time we visit. I do recommend it for sure!!!

Anytime were in Cedar City, we have to stop here. The food is very authentic and worth every penny. It's not too expensive and you get a ton of rice and beans.

Wow, what a disappointment. When we first arrived the placed looked really 'homey' with a cozy atmosphere...and sadly that was the end if its charm. Here are the reasons for my rating: - Slow service. The only thing we didn't have to wait for was the check...everything else took a while to get (including silverware for our meals). No soda refills offered although the glass was empty - Low quality food. My gf's chicken and rice was only half decent as the sauce and the chicken were tasty. The rice, beans and some old coleslaw-type side were aweful. My steak dish was way too salty, literarily had about 5 slithers of beef and a bunch of tasteless veggies. Again, the rice, beans and 'coleslaw' were pretty bad. I would not visit again nor recommend it to friends of family.

This is a fabulous Mexican restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly from the first, "Hi, Amigo!" as I walked in the door. The food was fresh and the flavors were clear and distinct. They had four or five clearly-marked vegetarian options. I had spinach enchiladas - wonderful! They used a wonderful cheese on the refried beans - not the usual bland stuff. Three kinds of salsas came with the chips. Great! Prices were reasonable, portions were large, parking was off-street, and they had a patio out back. Wish I had known about the patio before sitting down!

First ate here back in 2009, when I first worked with the Shakespeare Festival, and liked the food then, but it seemed a little spotty and inconsistent. Well, it's gotten a lot better as of this year. This is a local, family-owned place and they seem to have really focused on making it the best Mexican food place in town. I think they've succeeded, though I still like Lupita's and Alberto's too. :) Chips are warm, light, crispy. Salsas (I was served 3: rojo chili-based, verde tomatillo, and an unusual but terrific frijole bean salsa) are homemade, very flavorful. This time I had wonderful mole chicken enchiladas and their special chile relleno - one of the best I've ever had (and I've tried lots, one of my favorite dishes): light fluffy egg batter, poblano pepper that still had some crunch to it, and a wonderful combination of cheeses inside, topped by a slightly sweet, tangy sauce. Service can be a little slow, but very friendly. Feels like you're eating in someone's home (I think the place used to be a house). Special place, great prices, don't miss it.

In my trip to Cedar City this was the other restaurant i found on Yelp. I didn't know Cedar City had such great restaurants. The ambiance is not spectacular, but the food was very good. I usually judge a Mexican restaurant on 3 metrics. 1. Chips and salsa 2. Fajitas and 3. Margarita's. This place was very good on all fronts. The service was a bit slow, but the good food made up for that and the waitress was nice. The price is also definitely right.

I expect to find good, relatively inexpensive Mexican food in Cedar City, but this place is easily one of the best you'll ever eat in. It's not "Border Grill" style food, it's a lot more rustic, but the flavors are clean and perfect. Textures and temperatures are right on the money, and service is friendly and sincere. They always have two lunch specials ($4.95 and $5.95), and even if you order off the menu, you'll still get a good deal. By far, my favourite thing has to be the Salsa Verde. It's mild, but absolutely delicious. If my family wouldn't leave me sitting there by myself, I swear I'd drink it. Excellent balance of chiles, onion, and cilantro. I put it on everything. The only downside is a little slowness in service, and some problems with translating. However, I've been there enough now that they just automatically know to bring multiple extra bowls of the Salsa Verde. It's a little TINY place, but that makes it charming. Of course, that also means that they fill up quick for lunch. Eat early, or later in the afternoon, and you'll be fine. All in all, this place has become one of my all-time favourites, and it's sure to become one of yours.

I live in Mexico, its kind of hard to beat Mexican food in Utah. There are just so many strikes against you for ethnic food in this state. I also live in Utah part time, so I know this to be true. First of all, you can't drink your beer out of a bottle. You can only drink beer 3% and below. I mean, WTF? What's with all the rules? The food here was just, ehhh... It's really unfortunate to say, because the family that runs this place is really nice, and I like trying to see some multiculturalism happening in Southern Utah. I got myself the fajitas, and they were pretty ordinary. The beans tasted a little funky, and the rice was also pretty flavorless. Like I said, I wish I could say nice things, but the food has to speak for itself.

My husband and I went here for dinner while attending the Utah Summer Games in Cedar City. It was the best decision we made all weekend! We were so impressed with the food & the quality of the ingredients. I ordered the Spinach Enchilada ( vegetarian) & my husband ordered the chicken fajitas. He is a huge Mexican food fan & said they were probably the best fajitas he had ever had. We also got the Sopapillas to share for dessert. So good! Fried ice cream & Cinnamon Sugar Tortillas. We gave a big tip since we felt the food was much better than they charged for it. Only $22 for 2 entrees & a dessert. We will definitely be coming back! Would recommend it to anyone on their way south to St. George or Las Vegas.

Really good food and friendly staff. Unexpected in Utah so we were delighted. My wife had the tortilla soup and it was tasty. At first she was skeptical because the soup has chipotle as an ingredient and she couldn't quite get what was different. But midway she ended up saying that she really liked their version and actually ate most of the generous portion.

Family of five from Southern California with LOTS of experience eating Mexican food in California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and several other states. La Casa is a good spot for those looking for Mexican food in Cedar City. We give it 3 1/2 stars. We thought the food was good to great, slightly different in style to Mexican food we've had in other states. The meats we had in our dishes were very good. Service was sporadic. Staff was friendly enough, but not particularly attentive to our needs. For instance, we ordered dessert and, after the dessert arrived, had to ask twice and wait 5 minutes for silverware with which to eat it (while it cooled). We started with taquitos and flautas as an appetizer. They were smaller, softer and had more liquid in them than we've had in other places, but good. Taco salad had an extraordinary amount of chicken which was very good. Not much in the way of lettuce and was liquidy at the bottom. 3.5 stars Tacos Steak Rancheros had lots of steak which was very well prepared. Breakfast available all day. One ordered machaca breakfast and said it was outstanding. Don Miguel Tacos also had lots of meat which was also very good. Dessert--Flan was had a rougher texture and was not as creamy as we get in other areas. The chocolate enchilada (with bananas) was ok.

Hailing from New York City, where a good plate of Mexican food is hard to come by, you learn to appreciate your time in the Midwest while spending far too much time eating Mexican food. This restaurant is by far, hands down, my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California. Other 'close to Mexico' states: I'm on my way, but I doubt you'll be able to beat La Casa Don Miguel. The atmosphere's bright and awesome, staff is friendly, price is killer and the food is PHENOMENAL (did I mention that I'm salivating right now thinking about it, a full month after my visit?) If there's anything that could be seen as negative about this place it's that the food took, maybe, a little bit longer than I would have liked and the parking lot's a little easy to miss (and don't zoom in it if you're in a, say, Hyundai Accent... you'll get front bumper damage something fierce,) but even these slight negatives would still force me to give this place a 6 star rating. If only I could.

Yelp reviews led us to this restaurant on our vacation. I'm afraid we did not enjoy our meal that well. Service was slow and checking on us was next to non existent. Very disappointing and it will not be on our list to revisit.

Excellent Mexican food in a homey atmosphere. Hey you yelpers were right on! La Casa Don Miguels was sooo excellent and the prices were fantastic. We ordered for a family of five and walked out the door for $50. My two older boys (who can eat like lumberjacks) ordered full meals and said it was the best Mexican food they ever had. I ordered the Bean and Cheese burrito ala cart and it came wet with the most delicious red sauce I have ever eaten. To top it all off they served us a huge plate of free Sopapillas! (homemade fried flour tortilla chips with honey, cinnamon, chocolate drizzle and whipped cream) We would definitely hit Don Miguel's again next time we are in Cedar City. HINT: It is fairly small, so on the weekends it may get crowded HINT #2: Be prepared to get stared down if you are a tourist. Boy did we get the stares from customers when we walked in - maybe its a local thing and we don't look like Utah peeps. But who cares, the staff was friendly and the food amazing.

Over all super yummy, well made. I got a Vegetarian Burrito. BOMB. Came out covered in cheese, some sauce, three fat slices of avocado and fat slices of tomato, beans, rice,. Everything was sauteed in butter or something, brought the flavor together nicely. I added spinach and jalapeno. Only problems, I asked if jalapenos were fresh, waitress said yes. They weren't. PICKLED. Chips were homemade, which is good, when they're fresh. Came out stale and nasty. I asked for new ones, he threw them in the microwave to heat em up. They were good for 30 seconds, before they got cold again. Great salsa though, not good enough to cover up stale chips. I'll be in in Utah another week, and I'll be back.

After a hot day of hiking, I was thinking about going to the Chili's near my hotel, but so happy I went instead to Don Miguel's. On my swing through the Southwest, this was one of my favorite meals... Super nice mexican food, had great chicken flautas with guacamole as an appetizer, and then had amazingly good chicken fajitas (note: the Fajitas de Pollo are better than the Pollo Asado fajitas -- the FPs are done in a nice sauce). The refried beans were great, and the rice was good. The place isn't as small as it looked from outside, and the service was awesome. I wish this place was in Denver!

I was in town 05/20/2012 to see the solar eclipse. It was a Sunday, and most businesses here were closed, so we wandered into this place for dinner. I never had better beef fajitas in my life. The staff is friendly too and the prices are great.

BEST and most authentic Mexican in Cedar City! Inexpensive, friendly staff, quick service, AMAZING food. Can't say that enough- definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant. I'll go out of my way to stop here. The chicken flautas are a favorite, but you can't go wrong on the menu. Love the carne asada tacos, and the homemade salsa is delicious. You'll love it!

Warm, friendly service. The tortilla soup was the best I've ever had from a restaurant. The ingredients were noticeably fresh, and the soup had several dimensions of flavors from chipotle chili, tender white chicken, ripe avocado, chunky ripe tomatoes, and tender corn tortilla strips. The taco salad was crisp and fresh with a delicious mild homemade salsa and guacamole packed with flavor. The rice and bean combo was a light flavorful complement, and the chicken was perfectly shredded and moist white meat. The fajita was enormous and full of fresh grilled peppers and perfectly seasoned chicken. I will be sure to stop in again when I pass through. Delicious!

Don't let the small restaurant fool you!! It boasts large portions and amazing food!!! My husband had the taco special and I had the tricolor enchiladas. We had the shrimp mojo appetizer and we were almost stuffed from just the appetizer alone!! The verde salsa is pretty much like crack.....had there not been other customers around, I might have drank it out of the bowl!

This place was our "yelp" choice pick on the way back from Bryce Canyon. This place looked old and needs work done, but at the same time it has a lot of character. The food was OK. I really want to give this place a better rating, but I can't. First of all, the service was very friendly. The three taco combo with three different meat was very tasty, especially for the carne asada taco. But that is about it. I was disappointed from the beginning. First, the free chips and salsa that you look forward to every time you go to a Mexican restaurant and always have a hard time controlling yourself not to over eat, we had no problem to stop eating them. The burrito supremo with beef I ordered was so tasteless, I could not tell if they used beef, pork or chicken. All I know was every bite of that burrito was full of tasteless rice, bean and some meat. We really prefer visiting local restaurants on road trips instead of franchise, but this one is just OK.

Wow after going to a so called mexican joint in Beaver, This place blew my mind, it's a nice quite little place that looked like someone's old house turned into a restaurant, I got the trio encaladias and rice talk about authentic mexican food this was prolly the most authentic mexican food I've had in the states before, pretty close to the food I've had in Mexico but much better! The staff was friendly and very attentive when we ran out of chips and salas she's was all over it! The Red salas was my favorite and the green salas tasted a little bland. If you are in this area try some authentic mexican food!

I was driving from Vegas to Moab, UT and needed to stop for dinner along the way. Cedar Cit y looked like it had the most promise and after briefly checking reviews on Yelp, decided to try this cute, tiny Mexican restaurant that really does have the appearance of dinning in a family's welcoming kitchen. The atmosphere is extremely casual - some would call it divey - but any worries you may have about the no frills appearance should quickly dissipate after you're immediately served chips with a delicious verde and red salsa. The green salsa was particularly delicious with a healthy addition of cilantro. The rest of the food was all delicious. I ordered the pollo mole and my partner tried the cheese enchiladas. Everything was so much more tasty than the Mexican food was get back in Boston. Service was extremely attentive - almost too much so, but in a good way. Don't judge this place on its appearance and give it a shot if you happen to be driving through Cedar City.

We were apprehensive about trying this place since we have quite a few good mexican restaurants in our area but the food and service were good. Chips and salsa were good and it came with a small bowl of refried beans. I had the beef tostada which was good, we also had the beef fajitas which were very good. The taco was just ok but the tamales and enchiladas were good. The margaritas were eh. but overall we would return if in the area again.

Very good Mexican food at very inexpensive prices. The lunch special was $5.99 for enchiladas verdes with rice and beans (and, oddly, a side of chopped watermelon). The enchiladas are not made in house but they are bought fresh, and you can tell the difference. The verde sauce was good. The rice and beans were good. A large soda comes with the meal, making it especially good value. Chips and salsa are also served, and both the red and green salsas were delicious. An excellent choice if you're in Cedar City.

So great. My partner and I ate there two nights in a row when we were in Cedar City, Utah. The staff was great, the food was amazing and the salsa was fantastic! Try the chicken tacos and I am not sure what the meal was that we had, but it was a house specialty for two and it was covered in cheese and BACON! It was slap your mama delicious! I have eaten at many Mexican joints in my day, but this one made me wet my pants!

We found this place on yelp while staying in Cedar City for our visit to Zion NP. The food was overall excellent and cheap. The rice and beans were tasty but a bit salty. The Don Miguel tacos and margarita and avocado burritos were great. We definitely recommend this over the fast food available in town.

Stopped in here after reading yelp reviews. yeah, uhh..you guys are CRAZY. I've had better taco bell. We asked for queso and got a plate of microwaved cheese...not the yummy delicious Texas cheese dip that is a staple at even the crappiest Mexican restaurants. the chips were stale, the salsa was watery. Although the beans did have a strong bacon fat flavor they were even more runny than the salsa. I asked the owner where she was from..Seattle,WA. no wonder. Oh, but the margarita was good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
